Review: Herbs + Heart Elixir #gifted

Hello everyone!

I’m back with another review, if there’s anything you’d like a blog post about please let me know by messaging me, emailing me or sending me a DM! I enjoy doing reviews (as you can see), but if there’s other content you’re after, please let me know. Anyways, today I’ll be reviewing the Herbs + Heart Elixir*. This comes in a 10ml ($28AUD) and 100ml ($130AUD) bottle, I received the 10ml. As some of you may know, I’ve previously reviewed another Herbs + Heart product, (which you can view here), so I’m a bit familiar with the brand.

Elixir is a serum that’s packed with antioxidants, skin-repairing vitamins and essential fatty acids; promoting a more radiant and glowing complexion. This serum aims to rescue dull, stressed skin. It’s light texture glides on smoothly and melts into your skin. With light reflecting gold particles and a supple matte finish, Elixir is perfect for the step before hydration, or also a perfect under make up primer.

Enzymes of the Green Coffee bean are loaded with anti-oxidants to fight free radicals, soothing puffy eyes and reducing the appearance of under eye dark circles. The exotic addition of Jasmine is the key to hydration in this formula, whilst also helping even out skin tone by healing blemishes & scars. Rich essential fatty acids & antioxidant carotenoids from Avocados not only help to fight free radicals, high amounts of Vitamin C also stimulate elastin and collagen to keep skin looking firm and youthful.

The key ingredients are:

  • Green coffee bean
  • Jasmine
  • Avocado

Green coffee bean:

Green Coffee Beans are the unroasted cold processed beans that provide numerous skin benefits when applied topically. With high concentrations of essential fatty acids, sterols and vitamin E, Green Coffee Beans are a vital anti-oxidant offering protection against sun damage. This protection is related to the essence of caffeine, and its ability to increase apoptosis (programmed cell death) of UVB damaged keratinocytes, which remove damaged skin cells before they cause photo aging and skin cancer. Caffeine also effectively targets and diminishes the appearance of crow’s feet, whilst revitalising the skin support cell health for firm, healthy skin.

Jasmine:

Long known for it’s health benefits as well as it’s lovely natural fragrance, Jasmine has been found to nourish skin, help even skin tone, and protect skin from environmental stressors. The botanical extracts of Jasmine increase skins elasticity by balance moisture in the skin, naturally reducing dryness. A potent anti-septic, anti-baterial, and anti-viral thanks to compounds of benzaldehyde, benzoic acid, and benzyl benzoate, Jasmine protects the skin by boosting the skin’s immunity and creating a substantial barrier from invading offenders, especially as the seasons change.

Avocado:

We already know Avocados are full of good fats, what we mean by this is the poly and monounsaturated fats found in the flesh of the fruit. Monounsaturated fats keep the top layer of your skin moist so it’s soft and healthy looking. Polyunsaturated fatty acids guard skin from sun damage and protect against symptoms of skin sensitivity and inflammation. Avocados also contain a high amount of antioxidants. Carotenoids, vitamin E and vitamin C, help protect against the damage of free radicals. One particular carotenoid, lutein, promotes the water content and elasticity of skin and decreases the destruction of beneficial skin lipids, whilst Vitamin E protects you from ultraviolet light. Your body needs vitamin C to make collagen, which is the main structural component of skin and the source of its elasticity and firmness.

First Impressions:

Love the packaging, it’s a pump with a lid. It’s very travel friendly (10ml), just pop it in your handbag, backpack or clutch. The lid snaps on tightly, which is great because no-one likes a bag soaked with serum. It’s a light orange sort of colour, and upon closer inspection, you can see the bits of gold (gold mica), and it looks like tiny specks of glitter. I’ll be honest, the smell caught me off guard and I’m not too fond of it.

The serum literally melts into the skin, leaving your skin feeling supple. It doesn’t leave any cast or greasy feeling either – double win!

The first time I used it was all over my face, and I used one pump – enough to cover my face and neck. I use it after my liquid serums, as this is quite heavy for a serum, and just before my moisturiser. I’m hoping it’ll help with my dark under eyes, so I’ll be focusing more on that area (future applications), as opposed to the whole face.
What I like:

  • Packaging

I love the HH packaging, it’s so beautiful!

  • Improved under eyes

As I mentioned above, I wanted to focus on the under eye area because I have quite dark under eyes, and I have noticed a bit of a difference, not huge but my under eyes look a bit brighter. My under eyes aren’t as dark as before I started using Elixir. It’s also a bit more hydrated – sometimes during Winter my eyes get a bit dry from the cold winds etc.

  • Melts into skin

The skin really absorbs the product, and doesn’t leave any coloured cast behind.

  • Ingredients

Interesting ingredients, I’ve never used any products with jasmine or green coffee in it. Also, the appearance of gold mica on that list caught me by surprise.

  • Texture/appearance

I love the look and colour of the serum, the gold makes it look a little bit more luxe.

  •  Size

I know the size is quite small, but if you think about it, it’s actually quite a lot and will last a few months. I use half a pump for both under eyes (1 full pump, twice a day), and just pat in the remaining serum.
What I don’t like:

  • Packaging

I know what you’re thinking, didn’t I just say I liked the packaging. My concern here is the glass packaging, I understand HH does glass packaging as it’s better for the environment, but as I was writing this review, I almost dropped the serum twice – thank god I didn’t, but imagine if I did, or if a child did. It’s just a minor concern.

  • Smell

As I mentioned above, I’m not too fond of the smell, but that’s just personal preference/opinion.

Overall:

I enjoyed using this serum, like I said, it’s light weight and absorbs into the skin easily. The expiry date is 6 months, which is a pretty reasonable time for you to finish the product.

That’s all I have for today, if you’ve tried this product before, or any HH products before, I’d love to know your thoughts!

As always with love,

Irene
