Review: Herbs + Heart Face Mud #gifted

Hello beauties!

How is everyone?! I did a poll a few weeks ago and a majority voted for a review on the Face Mud* from Herbs + Heart! It retails for $38.99AUD/125ml and you can get it here.

Herbs + Heart is 100% natural, artisan crafted, honest, earth loving skincare. Herbs + Heart aims to simplify, balance and restore skin. All products aren’t chemical free and aims to eliminate harmful toxins in mass market circulation and replace skincare routines with a multi-purpose range of products. Herbs + Hearts is:

  • cruelty free
  • vegan friendly
  • made with recyclable glass packaging
  • made from locally sourced ingredients

As taken from their website,

An earthy blend the works to gently exfoliate and remove embedded dirt, whilst potent bio-actives deliver deep nourishment and hydration.”

Combining 16 super fruit and plant with locally sourced Manuka Honey, Orange Peel and Sandalwood, the Face Mud draws out impurities from deep within the skin whilst delivering a healthy dose of Amino and B vitamins. Upon contact with water, the Face Mud develops into a soft paste, gently exfoliating buffing away dead skin cells while depositing pure vitamin C to reveal a bright, glowing complexion. Designed for everyday use, the unique formulation of Coconut, Aloe Vera and Apricot Oils transforms the Face Mud into nourishing treatment mask leaving the skin feeling supple and soft to the touch.

Directions:

Wet face, and scoop a dollop of Face Mud to spread between wet palms. Massage this over your face evenly in gentle circular motions. For an express ‘spa facial’, leave the Face Mud on for 2-3 minutes to allow your skin to absorb the goodness. Rinse Face Mud with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel.

1. Wet face                 2. Scoop and spread          3. Massage                 4. Rinse and pat dry

Ingredients:

Manuka Honey, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil), Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salt), Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange), Santalum album (Sandalwood) Powder, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf, Vegetable Glycerin, Polysorbate 20,  Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Walnut (Juglans regia) Shell Powder, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil,  Plantaserve S.

Manuka Honey:

Derived from the Native Manuka Bush found in New Zealand, Manuka Honey is potent with rich enzymes and complex amino acids to support cell function and collagen cross-linking. Upon contact with water, Honey releases natural hydrogen peroxide to gently exfoliate away dead skin cells without disturbing the delicate acid mantle of our skin.

Sandalwood:

Excellent anti-blemish, working to EVEN out skin tone and enhance natural radiance. There are special properties to relieve skin irritated by prickly heat.

Orange Peel:

Nutrient rich in calcium, magnesium and potassium. Orange peel powder prevents oxidative stress in skin cells. It’s concentration of Vitamin C is effective in regenerating skin cells. Orange detoxifies and clears surface cells.

First impressions:

The packaging is really nice and the smell is a mixture of coffee and honey. Feels kind of like kinetic sand to me, a really…unique texture. As per the directions, you must wet your face, then take a dollop and spread it between your palms then apply to your face – as the Face Mud comes in contact with your wet palms it begins to melt a bit, turning from a ‘solid’ into something more ‘liquid’. As I used this for the first time, I found that it was quite messy to clean – left some brown stains in my sink.

What I like:

  • Packaging

The packaging is really lovely. The details, the colours, the fonts – they all work so well together.

  • Ingredients + philosophy

The ingredients are all natural, so you know that there are no chemicals in it! The philosophy behind the Herbs + Heart brand is so…nice? I can’t think of a word to describe it, it’s just so nice to come across a brand with such a philosophy!

  • Texture

I like the feel of the Face Mud, it’s such an interesting texture!

  • Cleanser, mask and exfoliator

The Face Mud is one of those 3 in 1 products, it works as a cleanser and gentle exfoliator – no harsh scrubbing needed. If left on for 2-3 minutes, it also acts as a mask, or as they call it ‘spa facial’.

  • Amount

You actually get plenty of product! I don’t need a whole lot of product when cleansing.

A little goes a long way with this one, so 125ml can last you forever.

  • After use effect

I find that my skin is smoother the day after using it. I have a few bumps here and there because of hormonal acne, but I have found that they’ve reduced in size the day after. I also have some texture – also due to acne/acne scars, and my skin feels smoother the day after too!

What I didn’t like:

  • Packaging

Don’t get me wrong, I like the label and everything, but I’m not a fan of glass packaging. Just the uncertainty of it being dropped accidentally and being completely shattered. A plus though, is that the packaging is made from recyclable materials!

  • The smell

The smell isn’t too repulsive, but it just reminds me of medicine – not my  most favoured scent.

  • The mess

It gets quite messy when using this cleanser.

  • Shelf life

It has a shelf life of 6 months which is a lot shorter than what I’m used to. I don’t use this everyday so I’m not sure if I can finish it before the 6 months.

Overall:

A very unique cleanser, that also acts as an exfoliator and mask. I really like this cleanser, I use it at least 3 times a week, when I feel like changing up my cleanser. As I said, my skin does feel smoother the day after use, I really enjoy it as a mask as well.

I would recommend this for people who are looking to smooth their skin or for those looking to try out more natural skincare products. It is suitable for sensitive skin and is super gentle on the skin too.

Tip: Use a toner after you pat dry your skin! It’ll get rid of any excess cleanser that didn’t get washed off.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this review! Have any of you tried anything similar? Would you try this out for yourself – if you do, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Have a great week,

Irene
