Review: The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

Hello everyone!

I’m super excited about today’s blog post because I’ll be talking about another product that I’ve tried from The Ordinary. My previous post (you can find them here) did really well and gained many views globally so I thought I’d review this serum as well. However, the hype of the brand has seemed to die down a bit so I don’t think it will have the same amount of success as my previous TO posts, but I’m just happy to share a product that I love with all of you!

So I just wanted to say that I’ve previously tried the Natural Moisturising Factors (review linked above) and the Hyaluronic Acid (didn’t like it that much and finished it pretty quickly). I’ve since gone and purchased the niacinamide after hearing great reviews, and the lactic acid (haven’t used it yet).

When I first purchased the niacinamide I was afraid of using it because I was afraid of purging – to my delight, I didn’t purge at all! Though your results may vary.

I have used niacinamide in other products before and they worked fine for me. As for zinc, it’s a great ingredient that helps the skin heal. Zinc can be ingested via tablets etc. or they can be found in skin care products. I haven’t used many skincare products with zinc in it, the only one I’ve tried that I recall that has zinc is one of the scrubs from Formula 10.0.6., which I bought many years ago when I was in highschool.

Enough of my ramblings, now let’s get into the review!

High-Strength Vitamin and Mineral Blemish Formula. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is indicated to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is indicated to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. A high 10% concentration of this vitamin is supported in the formula by zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid to balance visible aspects of sebum activity.

Note: While Niacinamide and Zinc PCA reduce the look of blemishes and balance visible sebum activity, neither is a treatment for acne. For persistent acne-related conditions, we recommend the use of Benzoyl Peroxide and/or Retinoic Acid. We do not recommend the use of Salicylic Acid. This formulation can be used alongside acne treatments if desired for added visible skin benefits.

Directions:

Apply to entire face morning and evening before heavier creams.

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Niacinamide, Pentylene Glycol, Zinc PCA, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Xanthan Gum, Isoceteth-20, Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

What I like:

  • Affordable

It costs 9.90AUD from Priceline, Myer and other online retailers.

  • Accessibility

There is a Deciem store in Sydney, not to mention that they’re stocked in various retailers. I remember a while ago they could only be bought online.

  • Effective

Ok so, not that I had doubts about this but I was so shocked to see the results from it! I’ve been using it for 3-4 weeks now, almost everyday (some days I skipped it because I forgot/too tired or lazy to add in skincare routine/used conflicting products). I had some acne on my jaw line that wouldn’t come to a head, nor would it go away and after using the niacinamide, it has completely flattened and I’m so shocked! It’s no longer bumpy and I’m so happy about that.

  • Improved texture

I’ve also found that my face is looking a lot smoother in terms of texture. There’s also a subtle glow to my skin – I have acne scars but when I look at my face on camera, my face glows and it’s barely noticeable (the scars).

  • Packaging

Love the dropper packaging, so convenient and clean.

What I didn’t like:

  • Nothing

I don’t think there’s anything I dislike about this. It’s worked really well for my skin and I love it!

Overall:

As you can tell, I’m pretty pleased with my results from the niacinamide. I’ll definitely be repurchasing for a long time!

Regarding the acne on my jaw line, I really wish I had pictures to compare and show you guys because the niacinamide actually did wonders for that area, and has helped my overall complexion.

Like I said above, I also have the lactic acid and if you’re interested in a future review please let me know and I’d be more than happy to share my experience/s with that product.

That’s all I have for today, I hope you enjoyed learning more about the niacinamide. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have as well. Have a great week!

With love,
