Review: Sephora Beauty Pass Rewards – Marc Jacobs Pack

Hello!

It’s been a while since I’ve uploaded something on my blog, so I decided to set aside a few hours to write up a post for you all! Between balancing uni, a social life, work and studying I have so little free time unfortunately. But I’ll be quitting my job in a few weeks, so I’ll have more free time to do what I like – but let’s be real I’ll probably be spending that time studying for my exams and doing assessments haha. Anyways, today I’ll be doing a review of the Marc Jacobs Pack that I got from Sephora as apart of their beauty pass rewards – for reference, this pack is equal to 500 points. They usually have the Caudalie skincare pack for the 500 points reward, but I saw someone get this and I knew I needed it for myself. I went to 2 Sephora’s to hunt this down as they were all really low in stock, or they ran out. Finally I got to another Sephora and I was in luck! I got the last one they had, well, it was actually on display in their cabinet haha, but the lady was kind enough to give it to me.

The pack is called “Shades of Decadence: Bold Eyes, Nude Lips,” and it’s a 4 piece bestselling beauty collection – as quoted on the packaging. It includes:

  • Petite Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara 5g/0.17 Oz
  • Petite Highliner Gel Eye Crayon 0.37g/0.01 Oz
  • Petite Le Marc Lip Creme 1.7g/0.05 Oz
  • Petite Enamored Hi-Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer 1.7ml/0.05 Fl. Oz

Back of packaging: Product images, products names and ingredients list

This was my first time trying anything from Marc Jacobs, so the expectations were quite high. I’d always been a fan of Marc Jacobs perfumes and I can feel myself becoming a fan of the cosmetics as well!

Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara (Noir):

Instant Volume. Epic Lashes. Velvet-Like Look.

First Impressions:

The very first time I tried this mascara I found that it was very wet and when I applied the mascara is was very clumpy as well because the brush picked up a lot of product.

What I like:

  • The darkness

The mascara is very dark, living up to the name of Noir haha.

  • The tiny fibres

I like the added fibres to the mascara which are used to lengthen.

  • The packaging

It’s very simple and elegant in all black and the ‘Marc Jacobs’ brand name on it.

  • The Size

This would be perfect for anyone that travels a lot, or for anyone that wants a great compact mascara when they’re running errands or anything like that.

What I don’t like:

  • How much product gets picked up at once

I don’t like that the wand picks up so much product in one go, but that’s really the only fault I can find in this product.

Overall:

This mascara has grown on me and I’ve used it about 5 times since my initial trial. I find that it works best when you wipe some of the product off the wand – that being said, I don’t it on a tissue as I find that it’s quite wasteful, which is why I wipe it back into the tube if that makes sense. Also, on close inspection, I can see that there are tiny fibres in the mascara that are used to lengthen your lashes which is awesome for anyone who wants that effect + the girls and guys that have short lashes!

Would I purchase the full size:

Probably not, considering the price and the fact that I’m loyal to my lash sensational from Maybelline haha.

Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (Blacquer):

Intense Colour, Extreme Wear. Waterproof.

First Impressions:

I’d never been a fan of gel liners/crayons as I find that they don’t suit the look that I’m going for. I tested this out and it’s not too bad, it applies smoothly and the packaging is very luxe. I feel like this would look good used in a smokey eye, or even just blended out with any eyeshadow, but once again that’s not a look for me because I like to keep it simple.

What I like:

  • The packaging

I think the packaging is very important as it really helps ‘sell’ the product to your eyes as they see it first. If packaging looks kind of tacky or just messy, it won’t grab peoples attention.

  • The pigmentation

This is very pigmented, you only really need one ‘swipe’ for the colour to show up and you can go over it for a more intensified colour/look!

  • Waterproof

It definitely waterproof to some degree, but once water is on it, it can be easily smudged.

What I don’t like:

  • Smudges easily

I tested this out on my hand before using it on my face and found that it smudged really easily, without any effort, water or any makeup removing solution.

Overall:

I think this would be best suited for those who are into gel liners, as it’s waterproof and glides on easily. However I’m quite disappointed that it smudges so easily.

Perhaps my opinions on this are quite bias because I’m not a fan of gel liners/crayons haha.

Would I purchase the full size:

No, as I’ve already mentioned I’m not a fan of this type of liner.

Le Marc Lip Creme (Slow Burn):

Irresistible Shades. Ten Luxurious Hours. Iconic Style.

First Impressions:

I loved the shade the moment I opened the lip stick! It’s such a gorgeous and simple colour. I’d say it’s a MLBB type of lipstick, and the pigmentation is insane! The first time I used it, I just patted it on lightly with my fingers as I was going for something quite subtle.

What I like:

  • Shade

I love this shade, it’s exactly the kind of lipstick shade I opt for.

  • The design

I love the design of the lipstick, the ‘tube’ itself is so cute and perfectly sized.

What I don’t like:

  • The staying power

I tried this out a few times after the initial use and found that the staying power really sucks. Definitely did not stay on for ten hours, which is so unfortunate.

Overall:

I really like this lipstick; the design, shade, name, it’s just so gorgeous overall and as I mentioned the staying power sucks, if this could last longer than a few hours, then this would definitely be my favourite lipstick, but until then, Lolita II by Kat Von D takes the place!

Would I purchase the full size:

Yes, 100%. I need to suss out the other shades next time I’m in Sephora.

Enamored Hi-Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer (Sugar Sugar):

Supreme Gloss. Covetable Colour. Shine Like 30 Coats of Lacquer.

First Impressions:

This smells like mint and glides on easily. The applicator is flat and the lip lacquer itself is very shiny and came in a soft pink. I’m not one to wear lip glosses or lacquers, basically anything sticky at all, so I wasn’t a total fan.

What I like:

  • The smell

I love that this smelled like mint! However, it might remind people of toothpaste haha.

  • How shiny it is

This definitely can make you shine like 30 coats of lacquer.

What I don’t like:

  • Formula

This just isn’t for me because I hate having sticky lip products.

Overall:

I don’t see myself using any lip glosses/lacquers anytime soon, so this was a bit of a miss for me. But it’s definitely worth it for those who do like lip lacquers and are looking for something shiny. This shade didn’t suit my skin tone either, it just looked super pale on me, but that’s not any one’s fault.

Would I purchase the full size:

No, because I don’t like lip lacquers.

Final thoughts:

I did like the lipstick and mascara out of the 4, and would definitely recommend them to anyone that is considering purchasing a new mascara or lipstick. I think I’m just a sucker for a good lippie, as I think they really just ‘pull’ your look together, so MJ did not disappoint me that much in that department.

Considering the prices of the full size versions of these products, I wouldn’t say they’re too expensive, I think they’re fairly priced for a brand that’s ‘high end.’
