Hello everyone!
The title says it all – Shampoo With A Purpose, today I am talking all about this amazing brand! So SWAP is a Sydney-based business that specialises in making shampoo bars, as well as other washing products such as dishwashing blocks and laundry products. As a consumer, I am trying to reduce my beauty products, whether it’s switching to reusable facial cloths or choosing products with better/recyclable packaging – every little bit helps!
When I came across SWAP, I was intrigued to see another shampoo bar on the market. Today I will be reviewing the O.G. which is suitable for all ages, genders and hair types! I have never tried a shampoo bar before so I thought the O.G. would be a nice transition. All SWAP products are formulated with vegan and sulfate-free alternatives to shampoos and conditions that come in a plastic bottle. Each bar replaces approximately 6 retail sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner per unit which is astounding!
The bars are also multi-purpose and travel friendly. The shampoo bar acts as a conditioner, and can also be used as a body wash – saving you time and money! The shampoo bar comes in a cute little recyclable box and there are wooden trays available for purchase on their website.
Save 6 shampoo and conditioner bottles from polluting the environment by switching to this beautiful solid shampoo bar. Not only are you going to be an eco-friendly warrior, your hair will be at it’s absolute best. We’ve added only fully eco-sustainable ingredients and additives, Shea Butter, Argan Oil and Coconut to give your hair the wash it’s been waiting for.
Directions:
Simply lather up in the shower and run the bar through your hair. Leave in for 2-3 minutes and wash out. That’s it kiddo!
Ingredients:‘
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Guar Gum (Hydroxypropyl Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride), Plant Origin Glycerin (Glycerin), Natural Coconut Fragrance, Moroccan Argan Oil (Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil), Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera), Sodium Laurel Sulphoacetate, Betaine, Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii)
First impression:
The packaging has some nice illustrations on it, and I think that gives it a bit of a more personal touch to the product. Before I even opened the box, I could smell that coconut fragrance and it smells sooo good! I am quite surprised at how large it is – I mean, I use a bar of antibacterial soap to wash my makeup brushes and they last me ages, imagine how many washes this will last me! When I first used it, it was a bit tricky to lather it up. As suggested on their website and packaging, follow up with your conditioner to help you transition from bottled shampoo/conditioner. I will say, I had to follow up with a conditioner because my hair didn’t feel that soft. That being said, I was pretty impressed by the initial use!
My thoughts:
After using it some more, I found that it’s best used in a portrait mode haha. The sides make it easier to use in the shower. I just wet my hair and then rub the bar on, and it actually ‘dispenses’ a lot of product which I then use to massage my whole head before rinsing out. The second time I used it, I found that I didn’t need conditioner at all – so I definitely recommend putting more effort into creating a lather when first using the product.
After I wash my hair, it smells really nice and my hair is fine the next couple of days as well! I love that it’s a multitasking product, which cuts down space in your bag when you’re travelling. I store it on the soap tray in the shower and you really don’t need a lot of product. My bar still looks pretty full after a couple of washes.
I definitely recommend trying this out if you’re looking to transition from bottle to plastic-free shampoo, or if you’re trying to cut down on wastage from beauty products. It will last you so long and help you save so much money in the long run. If you’re based in Sydney, they are at Penrith and you’re able to pick up your order from their warehouse! I will certainly look into purchasing some shampoo bars in the future – I’m the type of person who buys the large shampoos/conditioners that are about 700ml haha, so I will wait until I finish those, before I fully transition to bars!
If you’re interested in trying the brand, they have a shampoo sampler pack available here.
That’s all I have for this week, you can check out all the SWAP products here. Have you tried shampoo bars before? Let me know below!
