I feel like I haven’t done a makeup review in a long time. My makeup inventory is pretty simple, I don’t buy a lot – mostly because I try to keep a small collection + with the pandemic, I found myself wearing less makeup.
I love a good drugstore foundation, they’re relatively affordable, I can easily access a chemist or supermarket to purchase them and there’s a lot to choose from…the only downside is, I can’t find a good match in any of the drugstore foundations I’ve tried. I’ve tried the Loreal True Match – 2W was too light, but 3W is too dark. I’ve tried to match myself in the Maybelline Fit Me, but once again, the warm shades are either too light for my skin tone or they’re too dark – I also got a reaction from using the foundation 😦 I’ve tried to match myself in other brands like Rimmel and Revlon, but once again, it’s just never the right colour.
For a while I was using the Bourjois BB Cream in the shade 02 Medium. The colour was a little too light for my natural skin tone, but I loved the finish and I could probably get away with the mismatch in colour by warming up my face and also having you stand very far away from me haha. I’ve repurchased this maybe once or twice? However, one day Bourjois was on sale and I wanted to try something new! I purchased the Air Mat foundation in 03 Light Beige – my local only has three shades of this foundation, I’m not sure if there are more colours in the range.
This shade can be a little too orange for me sometimes, depending on the lighting to be honest. Other times I could get away with it – I mix some of the BB Cream with it and it doesn’t look too bad. Not a perfect match but still alright to get me through the day.
As you can tell from the name, it’s a matte foundation. It has a 24H hold and is super lightweight and sits on the skin nicely. It has medium-full coverage I would say…I can still see my pimples through the foundation and sometimes it does rub off a bit – it’s not transfer resistant.
I wet my sponge with some setting spray and bounce this over my freshly sunscreened and primed face. It works very well with the Ecotools blender that I’ve been using and leaves a very nice matte finish on my skin. I usually set my face with the Fenty Beauty setting powder and also do a bit of a spritz on top with the NYX setting spray in Dewy – however, my skin looks and feels pretty matte.
I’ve worn these on long days, e.g. from 8am to 7pm and it stays on my skin very well. Like I said, it’s not transfer resistant but it does hold up well in long days. It’s also really easy to clean off, I use a cleansing balm and follow through with a cleanser. I also found that it works well with my other makeup, I use the Maybelline gel creme blush and it works fine over that + sometimes I use bronzer and I don’t have any issues.
Overall, I’m pretty impressed with this foundation, and I would recommend it if you’re in the market for a matte one that holds well throughout the day. I would also recommend picking it up when it’s on sale, as the RRP is $30 for 30ml, and compared to other drugstore foundations, it’s a little more expensive. I got mine from Priceline during a 50% off sale so do keep an eye out if you don’t want to pay full price. I do wish they would have a more extensive shade range, I do quite enjoy some of Bourjois’s products, such a shame that they stock very little shades 😦
