Hi everyone!
It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve done a simple review on something! So, today I’ll be reviewing the Mecca Cosmetica Hydrating Moisturiser. I don’t think I’ve tried much from the Cosmetica range, just a few samples here and there. I would say this is my first official purchase from the brand, and I definitely have my eye on some of their other products!
I picked this up because I was in need of a new moisturiser, I loved the packaging, it’s hydrating and because I needed to get my Beauty Loop as well haha. This retails for $48 for 50ml (it’s also available in a 15g for $20), which is kind of the average price of a “high end” moisturiser. I’ve purchased other high end moisturisers that are around the $50+ price point for the same size, so this is not too bad in terms of pricing. It claims to help with:
- targeting age spots
- replenishing moisturse
- boosting radiance
- smoothing lines and wrinkles
Ideal for combination-dry skin, this ultra-rich yet fast absorbing moisturiser will nourish and smooth skin to reveal a more youthful, radiant complexion. Behind the scenes, amino acids and plant peptides work hard to even out skin tone and reduce signs of premature ageing including age spots, fine lines and wrinkles.
Directions:
Massage into clean skin in the morning and evening.
Ingredients:
Water, c12-15 alkyl benzoate, glycerin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, myristyl myristate, cetearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearic acid, dimethicone, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, glyceryl stearate, ceteareth-20, sodium acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, phenoxyethanol, tocopheryl acetate, isohexadecane, caprylyl glycol, pentylene glycol, xanthan gum, ethylhexylglycerin, fragrance, polysorbate 80, hydrolysed rice protein, fructose, urea, citric acid, sodium hydroxide, hydrolysed pea protein, maltose, sodium pca, sodium chloride, sodium lactate, trehalose, allantoin, glycine, proline, hydrolysed sodium hyaluronate, disodium edta, sodium hyaluronate, glucose.
First impressions:
Love the simple packaging inside and out, it comes in an airless pump – similar to the Drunk Elephant moisturiser. I found that I need two pumps to cover my face + my neck and it isn’t greasy or anything, it dries quite nicely. I love that it can be used day and night as well!
What I liked:
- Packaging
I love the airless pump, I can repurpose it after I finish the moisturiser which is great!
- Can be mixed with oils
So the way that the moisturiser comes in the packaging, I’m able to mix in oils and whatever else I feel like – serums etc. It mixes well and I just clean the top off after every use, to prevent any excess moisturiser drying out in lumps.
- Absorbs easily
This absorbs so fast into the skin, texture wise it’s not as heavy as the Drunk Elephant one (there formulas aren’t the same, but I just wanted to give a comparison in terms of texture). However, it’s not totally lightweight, it’s kind of in between.
- Can be used day and night
There’s also been this kind of day cream vs night cream debate, personally I like to use one moisturiser for both because it’s so much easier. Generally speaking, day creams have SPF in them, whereas night creams tend to be more hydrating, or they may have ingredients that can’t be used in the day time, such as retinol etc.
What I didn’t like:
- Ingredients
Don’t get me wrong, it’s quite good so far, but it advertises itself as ‘with hyaluronic acid’ – which it does have…but it’s all the way at the end of the ingredient list as “hydrolysed sodium hyaluronate” and “sodium hyaluronate”. On the website, it emphasies shea butter, hyaluronic acid and rice peptides as the key ingredients, though shea butter is much higher on the list than both. I would also like to point out that it has fragrance listed in the middle of the list, though I don’t detect much fragrance in the product and wouldn’t say it’s an overwhelming scent, like some reviews I’ve read that have pointed it out.
Overall:
I quite enjoyed this moisturiser, I didn’t find many faults in it and I did notice that my skin was more hydrated when using it, as well as softer! My skin is more radiant, though I don’t have many wrinkles/lines so I can’t speak on that. Overall I think this is a really good basic moisturiser, the price point is not too bad as I mentioned above, so if you’ve got the disposable income and you’re in the market for a new moisturiser, definitely grab a sample of this to see how you go!
What products have you tried from Mecca Cosmetica, or what products would you like to try?
On my wish list is the Glow Giving Exfoliating Solution, it’s quite a new release and it seems promising!
Have a great week!
With love,
