Is the Sassou Gold Cleansing Bar worth it?*

Hello everyone,

Today I’ll be reviewing the Sassou Gold Cleansing Bar*, and can I say how luxe it is! I’ve seen this brand before on Instagram earlier this year and I was intrigued by their packaging because it’s so beautiful!

For those who don’t know, Sassou (サッソウ) is a Japanese skincare brand, meaning ‘free and breezy from heaviness’. Each of their products have been developed to ensure that it offers a light and relaxed feel after every use, whilst providing noticeable skin benefits.

With over 50-years of experience in formulating effective skincare products that contain beneficial ingredients, such as natural plant extracts and premium gold leaves, Sassou was born with the commitment to bringing the very best in traditional Japanese skincare philosophy into each of their products.

First Impressions:

I loveeee the packaging, it’s just so beautiful. I love how it comes with a…case, which keeps the cleansing bar safe when not in use. Inside there is a manual detailing how to use the cleansing bar.

It comes with a cloth, that you’re meant to use to help lather the bar up. When I first used it, I was so confused. Luckily there’s a demonstration video on their website, which you can check out here!

I was really intrigued when I first used the cleansing bar, I’ve never cleansed like this before, but over time I got used to the process.

You put the cleansing bar into the cloth, run it under water and then lather it up, remove the cleansing bar and just squeeze the foam/lather out of the cloth and use that to clean your face. It feels so nice and moisturising. At first, I didn’t use enough water/didn’t leave it under water for long, so it didn’t work as well, so make sure you leave it for about 10-20 seconds or so. Then you take that lather and apply it onto your wet face, then rinse!

The texture of the cleansing bar reminds me of like oil that’s been solidified, and when it comes in contact with water, it becomes a liquid cleanser. It left my skin feeling soft, moisturised and kind of squeaky clean – but not in a way that feels drying.

All in all, it was a fun first experience!
What I like:

  • The packaging

Everything feels so luxurious, I was so taken aback by the packaging of it.

  • The gold

It’s not everyday that you get to have gold in your skincare!

  • Skin softening

My skin definitely felt soft immediately after using it!

  • Long term effect

I’ve been using this for a few weeks now and I have noticed a subtle glow it gives my skin. I have a lot of acne scarring, but this still makes my skin give off a nice glowy look.

  • Fun cleanser

This is a fun way to cleanse your skin, I love using foaming products!

  • Not drying

As I mentioned above, this leaves your skin feeling kind of squeaky clean and I’ve experienced a different cleanser before that gave me that same feeling, but it made my skin dry out fast, but this doesn’t do that! The honey in it leaves your skin feeling moisturised.
What I don’t like:

  •  Cleansing bar sticks to case

The first  few times I used it, I found that the cleansing bar stuck to the case a lot and I tried different ways of storing it so it wouldn’t stick, but they weren’t every effective.

  • Expensive

This is definitely one of the most expensive skincare items I’ve ever used, but I understand the brand aims to provide the public with a luxurious image with their products.

Overall:

I’ve enjoyed using this cleansing bar, it definitely has made cleansing a little more fun! I love the ingredients, their properties and how the cleansing bar looks with all the gold flakes. As mentioned above, there are just 2 small faults for me – the fact that it stuck to the case and the price. In regards to the price, I think this is something worth splurging on once for yourself or as a gift, it’s so beautiful and luxurious. If you want to try this and want it to last longer, I saw someone once suggest cutting up a cleansing bar to make it last. So you could cut this into quarters, and use it when you wish and then save the rest for another time.

You do get a fair amount of usage with this, and the good thing about it is that there’s no packaging to dispose of, like there’s no plastic tube, no need to cut it open to get as much product as you can etc. The case can be reused to hold items around the house, maybe keys, or some potpourri!

That’s all I have for this week, I hope you enjoyed reading today’s blog post. I have a new blog post coming next week, as I do every week.

With love,

Irene
