Review: Sephora Collection Acai Hair Sleeping Mask

Welcome back lovelies,

We are 2 weeks away from Christmas – who is excited!? I’m currently overseas and have written a bunch of blog posts that’ll be scheduled every week as I won’t have the time or technology to blog whilst I’m overseas.

Today I’ll be reviewing a hair sleeping mask that I got for my birthday, over 2 months ago. I know it’s very delayed, but I have been so preoccupied in the past 2 months with uni, I just didn’t have time to sit down and type away my thoughts.

Anyways, this is the mask I received, you can also find it here. The Sephora Collection also stocks other types, such as:

  • Coconut
  • Rose
  • Shea

As shown on the packaging, the acai one is for brightening and colour protecting. But let me add, I have black hair, so there’s not much ‘brightening’ that can be done in that department haha, and as for colour protecting, I’ve dyed my hair in the past, but that has all been cut off since then.

The back

Background:

So personally, I don’t do any special treatment with my hair – I just use shampoo and conditioner. I don’t go to the salon, I don’t blow dry it, I don’t keep it tied up all the time, you get the idea.

I’ve used a hair mask from Hellohair before and let me tell you, it was the most awful experience I’ve ever had, which turned me off of hair masks forever basically. So trying out this overnight hair mask was new to me and I wasn’t sure how I’d feel, considering that my hair is a bit ‘plain’, because I don’t do anything to it.

I keep it out on the days that I leave the house, unless its super windy that day or my hair is just a bit that day – that’s when I tie it up.

When I sleep, I braid it if I’m going out the next day, using loose hair ties so it doesn’t damage my hair. Sometimes, I just leave it out as it is and deal with the messy hair in the morning haha. Other times, I go to bed with it tied up or down, because I want to keep it out of my face.

As I have previously mentioned, I have dyed it before, but it was over 3 years ago and I’ve had hair cuts since then, so there is no sign of dyed hair.

My hair is naturally straight, especially in the periods where I have just washed it and it has been air dried.

I wouldn’t say it’s very strong, nor would I say it’s prone to breakage. I do lose some hair sometimes but so does everyone else.

First Impressions:

  • Packaging

Very vibrant and playful packaging with clear instructions.

  • Cute cap

The cap was really stretchy and designed so cutely.

  • Fragrant

The mask smelled nice.

Process:

So I decided to try this out the day before I had uni – which starts with a 6am wake up. The night before, I followed the instructions. I opened the packaging and took out the cap, I then opened the sachet containing the hair mask.

I applied it all over my dry hair, and let me tell you I didn’t even need that entire sachet for my whole head. I have medium length hair –  around the chest area and I think for me, I could’ve gotten another use out of it.

After I applied the mask, I popped my cap on and it felt a little uncomfortable to be honest. Just the idea of my hair feeling ‘wet’ and then concealed within a mask just felt kind of weird to me. Anyways, I tried to ignore that feeling and went to sleep as normal.

In the morning, I woke up without the cap on and completely forgot I even had a mask in. I found my cap lying next to me and checked my pillow to see if there was many mask smeared – luckily there was not.

I made my way to the bathroom and washed it out. I tried to wash it out as well as I could but I could still feel that ‘greasy’ feeling in my hair. I was running low on time so I tried one more time, to get everything out, quickly towel dried my hair as best as I could, or at least until my hair stopped dripping. I went about my daily routine and headed out the door to make my way to uni.

Let me tell you, my hair dried all greasy and uncomfortable and I had a full day at uni, where I got home at 8:30pm. Throughout the whole day, all I could think about was how long until I got to go home and wash my hair because it felt awful.

Overall:

I think I have bad luck with hair masks that are leave ins,  I haven’t had any problems with ones that I immediately washed out, just these kinds of hair masks. I don’t think I’ll try any more leave in hair masks in the future, they’re just bothersome and it’s not like my hair will die without this special treatment.

I didn’t like this mask, just because of how gross my hair felt at the end of the treatment, when it’s meant to feel “amazing”.

If you’ve tried this hair mask before, what did you think about it?

Until next time,

xxx
