During the winter time of one fine year I had the chance to go to Sweden for my work. On our way to Linköping we had a 9hr transit in Amsterdam, the capital of Netherlands. So we decided to make the best out of it. The best part was that the transit was during the day time allowing us plenty of time and opportunity to explore Amsterdam.
We took a guided tour around Amsterdam through the city in a vehicle and through the canals in a boat. When we first went out from the airport, it was freezing cold with frost all around. We prepared ourselves for the cold weather by trying to keep warm with warm clothes.
Amsterdam is about 2 metres above sea level. The river Amstel ends in the city centre and connects to a large number of canals that eventually terminate in the IJ. Amsterdam has more than 100 kilometres (60 miles) of canals, most of which are navigable by boat.
First we went through the city in a van while the tour guide was explaining the things as we pass by. The most memorable thing about Amsterdam is its endless canals and those unique buildings around those canals.
A beautiful windmill in the middle of the city..
They are famous for their wooden shoes… and cheese 😀 which we didn’t forget to try
