Hello friends,
Today I’m doing a first impressions on an Australian cosmetic brand that has been around for years, that I only recently got to try out. I won these items in a giveaway and I’ve always heard good things about DB though those remarks mostly came from people who are on their PR list, so…I guess the only way to know if it’s good, is to put it to the test myself!
I will be looking at:
- Moisturising Lipstick – Nude Latte
- Eyeshadow Brush
- Gold Elixir Priming Potion
- Pigment Pout Longwear Lip Liner – Blushing Nude
Moisturising Lipstick – Nude Latte
I love the sleek packaging, it comes in a magnetic case. Very simple, with black and silver as the main colours and a sticker on the bottom noting the shade + a vegan and not tested on animals sign. The tip of the lipstick is embossed with “DB” which I thought was a cute touch. The shade looks really nice, it’s kind of a pink nude. The pigment is there, though the shade doesn’t suit me. The formula is pretty good, it’s moisturising and has a satin kind of finish. It does come off when eating or drinking, though it leaves a bit of a stain on the lip, so you could always easily reapply. Overall, I think this lipstick is pretty decent in terms of the formula, it’s just a shame that the shade didn’t suit me. It retails for $11.99 which is pretty affordable as well.
Eyeshadow Brush
Very simple packaging, the brush I received was a flat eyeshadow brush which I think is more suited for patting on pigments, rather than blending. The quality is 6.5/10 I would say. It’s not as soft as I thought it would be, but it does a alright job at patting on pigments. Not sure retail price as I only found brush sets, as opposed to singular brushes for sale. Overall, just a pretty ok brush.
Gold Elixir Priming Potion
When it comes to gold in skincare and cosmetics, I think it’s pretty gimmicky TBH. There isn’t really any purpose for it IMO, it’s just there to look pretty. I buy products for their function, rather than their looks. Anyways, this can be used on its own or as a primer. The texture is like a gel and a little goes a long way with this.
I used it as a primer and I found it to be pretty meh, the ‘gold’ particles didn’t really break down, they just sat on my face and I applied my foundation over it. Didn’t notice much difference in using this as a primer.
Using it alone, I had the same issue with the gold just sitting on my face. I wouldn’t recommend using it alone because it’ll look like there’s just bits of stuff stuck on your face.
It retails for $19.99 which I would say is pretty average pricing for a drugstore primer.
Pigment Pout Longwear Lip Liner – Blushing Nude
This looked really promising and I love nude lipliners. This comes in a silver packaging with the actual shade colour on the end of the liner. When I first used it, it snapped – it comes with a sharpener and it’s retractable so it was an easy fix. It’s really soft and sadly the colour didn’t suit me, it looked like a pale coral on my lips, though it looks nice in the packaging. I can’t comment on the formula because well, I didn’t want to wear a mismatching lip liner because it would look odd. It retails for $9.99, which is a good price, but I’m currently loving my Savvy lipliner which was only $4.99 😉
Overall, I thought DB was pretty meh given the products I tried out. Maybe I would have a better view of the brand/their products if I actually got to pick what products to try, and find colours that actually suited me. Though, I can see why a lot of people like them – because of their wide range and affordability. I’ve never really bought from DB because they’re not stocked at my local chemists. Maybe I’ll try the brand again in the future, maybe not.
Have you tried DB before? What products did you like or dislike?
With love,
